2016-06-19-Fathers Day - Road trip to the Coast.

Sunday, (Fathers Day), June 19, 2016 - Road trip to the Coast

Andreas wanted to go to the coast!  The forecast was for not much to happen in Hood River wind wise, and the forecast for the coast was excellent with small waves, warm weather and decent wind.

Wind blowing on the Beach!

None of us were really interested in the 2.5 hour drive each way - and frankly, to some of us, the coast is a bit intimidating.

Cam was one of the first to be convinced, but Cynthia wouldn't have any part of it.

At breakfast I learned that Karen, Ross and Kent were all going to drive out.  I texted Andreas, and said that if he had room for me and my camera bag, that I would come along as well - just to take photos.

Gerry, Karen and Ted on the beach!
Lemmings will be lemmings.....  Gerry was the first  to decided it would be a good idea.  I could throw my stuff in with him and we could drive together.  He would even have room for some windsurf gear.

Next Big Air Jim somehow became convinced, and this swayed Cynthia.  Cam was very happy.

We now had eight of us going to the coast!  We headed off before noon.

Ted, Karen, Jim, Gerry, Andreas, Cynthia, Ross and Cam

(No one could get Ross to look at the camera!)

We arrived in Manzanita around 2:00 at a beautiful beach with lots of wind.  Andreas was the first out, followed shortly by Ross and then Cam.  All on their kites.  The conditions were lite on the inside, and windy outside.  Cynthia, Gerry and Jim took out their windsurfers.  Cynthia was on a 5.3, while Jim and Gerry were on their 5.7's.  After getting through the break, they all had a good sail on the outside.

Around 6:00 the wind began getting a bit fluky, and everyone was tired.  We had supper at the Sand Dune Pub while Cleveland won the NBA.

Cynthia had a good day!

Gerry, Heading out!

It was a great day.  With all the sand blowing on the beach, even a day later and after two showers, I still feel like I used to feel after a beach volleyball match - sand everywhere..  :<)

We got home late, at around 11:30, all very tired from our day on the beach.  (Thanks Gerry for doing all the driving - I owe you some gas money!)

Brad and Blaine took a road to the site of a Total Eclipse that will occur next summer, so that Brad could check it out ahead of time.   Apparently there is a spot in Oregon, that is directly in the path of the eclipse and with a very high likelihood of clear skies.  Brad is planning on coming back next year to watch it.  The skies were cloudy, which they hope is not a sign of what is to come next year.

On the way home they spotted the Erickson Aircraft Museum, so they went in and had a lot of fun looking at all the old Aircraft.  They say it is a very interesting collection and that I should make the trip.  I likely will!

I understand that there was also some golf involved, but I don't have any photos.

Kent arrived after celebrating his fathers 80th birthday in Edmonton.  Of course all the rooms were full, so he had a bit of trouble finding a spot to blow up his mattress.  I will enjoy having him as a room mate for the rest of the trip!

I believe that we are all now here.  We have heard from Big Jim, Al, and Tim, all of whom would like to be with us, but who have other commitments.  It is too bad they couldn't make it!

Ted - Great day!

More photos of the day are on my Flickr Site Here....
